SILVER MEDAL
Captain Mitchell Parker

Captain Parker led a rescue team driving a firefighting tanker through the streets of Stroud one night during one of its worst-ever floods, rescuing desperate residents trapped in their houses.

In pouring rain, with no streetlights, and guided only by memory, the team drove the vehicle through fast-flowing floodwater 1.5 metres deep into driveways they couldn’t see.

He and his crew then formed a human chain from the tanker to each front verandah to enable the residents to be removed from danger. They worked until daybreak to respond to every rescue call, with many residents trapped in their houses and on their roofs.

Mitch was elected to our Council in 2024 and is the leader of our new Regional Ambassador team.
